The Young Enterprise Company Programme is an immersive enterprise experience for S5-S6 students where they create and run a real company for the year alongside their schoolwork. They take on leadership roles, carry out market research, brainstorm product ideas, purchase materials and create their products and then they consider packaging and prices. They raise money through selling shares and at the end of the year hopefully, they make a profit which shareholders get to keep!
The programme ensures students learn by doing as they develop their transferable enterprise skills such as confidence, communication, teamwork, risk-taking, resilience, problem-solving and financial capability.
We also work in partnership with Glasgow Kelvin College to offer an optional, free SCQF Level 6 Qualification which many of the students who will be attending next week are enrolled in. More details here.
There are companies taking part from Renfrewshire, Glasgow and Ayrshire and they will be selling a range of products including:
ZARRAS Essence from Inverclyde Academy who craft luxury, handmade reed diffusers in a variety of scents with natural wooden reeds.
Tee’d Up from Johnstone High School who make sustainable tote bags and accessories from donated t-shirts
Corsehill Crafts from Stewarton Academy who make bespoke hardwood products from up-cycled wood such as chopping boards, cheese paddles and bottle openers
